I built a NT Dumble for a friend and he asked me about the function of the voice control. I’m not really sure what it controls. He says that in his mind it pans from a Bluebreaker sound to a more ODS sound. I didn’t play it enough to actually come up with that conclusion. What is your take on it?

It changes how the frequencies hit the clipping stage.

It adjusts the low and low-mid content before distortion occurs. Because of that, it changes the character of the overdrive.

    Lower Voice settings:

    • Tighter low end

    • Smoother response

    • More focused mid character

    Higher Voice settings:

    • More low-mid content into the clipping

    • More open and articulate

    • More cut in the upper mids

Since this control works inside the gain stage, it affects how the pedal distorts rather than acting like an EQ after the fact.

Does it also alter the bais of Q2?

No, it doesn’t change the bias of Q2.
