Hello everyone- I’ve been away for awhile but working on some projects again. I did the Cranky Charles and I had a question about the EQ section. I’m finding myself diming the Hi and rolling back the Lows and have nowhere else to go. What can I change to give me a little more high end in the pedal? It sounds great, I don’t believe I have any incorrect values (though I’m happy to post pics when I get home.)

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yup you guessed it. Photos when you get home.

Also list Pot Values and any substitutions.

This must be Cranky Charles day.

The Cranky Charles has a low pass filter at R15 and C14.  That is rolling off frequencies above about 1K.  Change R15 from 6K8 to 1K2 and you will move the filter up to about 6K.  That should give you more treble range to work with.  Report your results.  I hope this helps.

Oh Hi! This fell off my radar as I was teching another build and working on a friends pedal. Thank you Wilkie- I’ll take a look. If that’s not it then I’ll get some well lit pics and we’ll go from there. I appreciate everyone’s time!

Just as a note we did change the resistor value from the “original” circuit from 10k to 6k8 already so I would be sure you are not modding something that actually needs a fix.

If the original value was 10K and the cap at C14 was 22n, then the low pass filter was at 724Hz!

Yah Ray I am definitely feeling you but the original “JHSss” had it at 10k and 22n. Unless someone made an error of course.

We did not like that so we changed it to 6k8 wayyy back when.

I did some poking around and it seems the 6k8 / 22n is now the standard among others in the DIY world.

I am of course interested in hearing about the effects of modding but I would also be interested in verifying his build as well.

Good points.  I’ll wait to hear what Matt has to say about his build.

Hi guys- sorry I’m so sporadic. Life, you know?

I swapped out the R15 for a 1.2k and it helped. If its alright, I’d like to ask about the others now. The pedal sounds great (and similar to others in its family) but I’m just trying to tailor it to my rig. Ideally I’d like to be able to “scoop” out a little bit more mids and tighten up the lows. Right now its sitting next to an older SuperPlex and I’m trying to get just a bit closer to that sound. I recognize they’re different, I’m just using that as a reference.
