I’ve been building pedals a minute or two now, but I’m reminded at times that there is so much I do not know about the components I use and the science behind their function.

Anyways, I’m working on a Muff’n Triangle version. I found I don’t have any 390k resistors (for R5, R10, R15, R19).  Do you think 430k’s would perform ok without causing a big difference in the way the circuit sounds?

Also, would using multi-layer ceramic capacitors (100nf for C1, C3, C4, C7, C12, & C13) instead of film or box type capacitors of the same value affect the circuits sound?  I also need 560pf MLC’s (for C5 & C8) and only have film type.

    Thanks for the help.

Barry, I want to let you know how much I appreciate this site and all the hard work you (and others) put into this place.  It really is a great resource for those of us who know just enough to stay out of trouble.

    Thanks again.

Those resistors are feedback resistors a higher value will increase gain lower values will decrease it

The capacitors will be fine to use Elliott

It may not sound exactly like a triangle muff but it will definitely sound like a big muff

For more information have a look at the beginners guide to effects pedal components on the guides page

Here’s a guide to the big muff circuit from Kitrae
