I finished up my first germanium fuzz pedal over the weekend, a Pumped Up Fuzz Face. It sounds much smoother than the silicon fuzzes I’ve been building lately. I guess all the hype was true. I got the transistors, charge pump chip and board here. The bias pot is set to -6.4V at the moment. It’s not as compressed sounding when it was set lower but has more volume and more clarity. It cleans up nicely with the guitar volume knob too. I had a red enclosure that I was going to use for a EVH style phaser pedal but decided to use it for this. If I had to do it over, I’d go with side mounted jacks rather than at the top to give it more of an even look with the knobs. Amazing how such a simple circuit sounds so good.
I have everything I need to do the Pumped Up Tone Bender so that one is next.
