Decided to revisit the DSOTM after many years of faithful service from my first one.  Built my original in 2013 – the version that is built on the 3PDT switch – followed the BD and came up with a good result (comment aimed at me not Barry’s BD.  Recently snagged a v.4 and built the white pedal below.  Decided to change the gain trimmer to an external pot and sort of followed the Tonebender mantra for selecting transistors (low hfe in Q1, medium in Q2 and high in Q3) – not sure that made any serious difference but I can pretend.

    The Muffin is also something I circled back around to – first build also in 2013 used the Ram’s Head values.  Liked it well enough but wandered about building other variations big and small.  My favorite was a 4 knob 1590A version from Shu-Tone that was supposed to be a riff on the P19 and Iron Bell with other mods.  Decided I needed  big one (kind of tough to put clipping and high pass switches on a 1590A) so after studying the schematics and BDs I made the following changes to the Violet Ram’s Head components R2 – 33K, R4 – 200R, R7 – 820R, R12 – 200R, R16 – 10K, R17 – 200R, R18 – 18K, R19 – 470K, R20 – 2.7K (for Mid Control mod), C1 – 10n (for High Pass Filter M1), C2 – 560p, C3 – 47n, C4 – 22n, C5 – 560p, C8 – 560p, C10 – 6n8, C12 – 330n, P2 (Tone) – B50K, and Q1 – 4 are BC-550Cs.  I used violet waterclear LEDs and 1N914s for the diodes – not terribly imaginative but they work well in this build.

    Here are the boxes:

My craft stamps are wearing out and some are missing so I snagged some stick on letters from Amazon – at 1/4″ they’re also easier to see way down there on the floor.  Boxes are Tayda’s ball silver for the Muffin and white for the DSOTM.

    And the guts:

I’m real happy with both of these.

    Thanks for looking,
    Chuck

Awesome. Two of my favorites. My very first pedal build ever was the older DSOTM. I’ve learned so much I’d kind of like to do it again. And my Muff’n is absolutely stellar. Same Rams build and modded up and down.

Just finished my DSOTM build!  Sounds great!

I’m actually going to give it to the guy that got me started playing bass.  He’s a guitar player that I’ve known since we were both 15.  He introduced me to his guitar/bass instructor, I started taking bass lessons,

and I’ve been hooked ever since.

This pedal is just my way of saying thanks.
