Somewhere I read that an MPF 102 was a direct replacement for the J113. Although it works, it is hot! After biasing, this boost is too loud!

Should I treat the MPF 102 as a J201 and put a jumper in R1? Or should I remove and install the J113? At the time of populating the board, I didn’t have a J113. I have some now.  Thanks!

ROLAND – IMO, you’ve answered your own question. If you got some J113 FETs, then use that. It will bias better as it is such a close replacement for the MPF102. And yes, it will be loud. It was intended to be so. The trimpot does NOT need to be set for “perfect” biasing standards – it can set to what “sounds” best to you. Happy building!

J113 is my favorite in this circuit.
