I bought the rat kit and I suspect it’s missing pieces. I can’t find any of the pieces as are pictured in the diagrams. Can anyone tell me if I’m wrong about this. I’m a beginner.January 13, 2022 at 8:24 pm #22499Bruce RModerator
Steve, if you have not built a pedal before, you should start off by reading the general guides for building pedals here: https://guitarpcb.com/forums/topic/pedal-building-guides-mandatory-reading/ (see bottom section).
Did you download the build document for this build? https://guitarpcb.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/RATT-DELUXE-v4-2021.pdf
Next, for the capacitors. In the kit you bought, it says in the quick start guide (to the right of the kit bill of materials) that the capacitors are not marked individually, but the markings on each are listed in the bill of materials in parentheses (red ones match what’s in your picture):
R12 is not supposed to be populated, as you are not going to use the LED on the main PCB, you’re going to use it on the 3PDT wiring board that came with your kit. I see 4 resistors in your picture, and 4 places for them. The resistors were in bags that have the PCB part number listed on them, but if you are unsure which is which, you can use a multimeter to measure them. You can also use this chart https://guitarpcb.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/GuitarPCB-Common-Resistor-Chart.pdf to determine the value if you have no multimeter, but you need to realize that there is no marking indicating which is stripe 1 and which is stripe 5. A multimeter costs about $7 at Harbor Freight if you have one near you.
Are the resistors in the picture and 4 capacitors the only things you have left? If so, then yes, more parts will need to be sent to you. All you need to do is ask and they will be sent ASAP. If the parts were checked off on the bill of materials, then the should absolutely be there. Not sure what happened there if that’s all you have.

I have corresponded with Steve S through email, and he sent me a picture of everything he received. Right now, I’ve confirmed that he’s missing 1 diode (1n4001). He’s confirming that he has the 3PDT wiring circuit board, which was not visible in the picture. It appears he has the other capacitors, diodes, trimmer, LEDs, transistor, sockets, switches, jacks, wire, enclosure, etc.
