    I’ve got some Germanium NPN’s and wanted to see if anyone had tried germanium’s for the Q1 transistor. I’ve got a 2N3904 in Q1 right now. Q2 & Q3 are fuzz face rated PNP germanium’s.

    The hfe of the 2N3904 is around 300. Highest gain NPN Germanium I’ve got is around 100. All the transistors are socketed, so they’re pretty easy to swap out.

    Can’t really address your question yet, but I have some OC140s and OC141s with hFEs in the 250 – 280 range.  If all your transistors are already socked it would be worth a shot to try it out.  I know I will when I get around to building mine – just because you planted that seed.
